ENGAGING POPULAR MUSIC:  Teaching cultural discernment skills that equip youth to make healthy listening choices

Church leaders and parents struggle to understand what songs their youth are consuming. Artists like Lizzo, Lil Barnacle, Ava Max, and Billie Eilish are popular with teenagers but unknown to adults. Without personal discernment skills, these youth will be unaware of how this music impacts their faith and identity.   Church leaders can teach youth discernment skills and empower them to make healthy listening choices.  In this workshop, participants will learn how to teach the three steps of music discernment, encourage critical-thinking, and use popular music to help youth develop empathy.
